Its sacred tree is the Vembu (Margosa), while its picturesque pond is called Siddhartha Theertham. Within the southern praharam of this temple lies the famous Jadayu Kundam from the epic Ramayana.
History
People possessed by evil spirits come here and get cured by bathing in the tank for a certain period of time. There is a bronze image of Angaraka to which pooja is performed every day. The Vaidyanathaswamy is said to have cured 4,480 diseases with Amritha Sanjeevi and Vilvathadi Mann, who are both devoted to him.
Every month, during Karthigai day, the sacred Sri Selva Muthukumaraswamy undergoes a grand abhishegam. Additionally, every Tuesday, the idol of Angaraka is paraded on its Goat mount in procession. Despite being a temple of significant importance and size, one can still spot Pallava art such as the Yali pillars. Notable saints like Thirugnanasambandar, Thiruvanukarasar, and Arunagirinathar have all devotedly sung praises to this deity. It is customary for most children in this area to visit Vaitheeswarankoil to offer their hair locks to Vaithianathaswamy. Along with this ritual, devotees also leave offerings of salt and pepper in front of the Sannadhi. The esteemed temple at Vaitheeswarankoil is renowned for its ability to cure any ailments of the body, mind, and spirit for all its worshippers. One can often hear the song of His glorification whispered by the lush margosa tree next to the eastern gopuram as it stands guard over this heavenly healer of human diseases.
