About Temple:

Anjaneynar is a life-size Hanuman statue carved out of one stone. The city lies at the foot of a huge rock, upon which a fort stands. Immediately, the name Namakkal evokes the temple of Hanuman at Namakkal, named Namakkal Anjaneyar. A temple of Narasimha stands opposite the Hanuman. Hanuman’s idol stands 18 feet tall and under open skies.

With a gold crown, diamond earrings, long gold garlands, and chains, Sri Hanuman is adorned with rings on his fingers and wrists, a golden belt covers his hip, a short curved sword hangs from his right hip, and gold rings hang from his ankles; such a lovely huge and beautiful deity of Sri Hanuman that we could not see anywhere else.

History

Narasimha Murthy instructed Lord Anjaneya to bring the Salakrama Hills from Nepal and name them Namakkal. In Vishwarupa Dharshan, the Lord worships on the open terrace, exposing Himself to natural disasters such as floods, hot sun, and storms. Namakkal’s people pray to the Lord to bless them with good sense, good health, boldness, success, wealth, and good speech. The Lord keeps growing height-wise.

Another remarkable characteristic of this temple is Lord Sri Hanuman’s preference for an open-air setting instead of a roof over his head. Despite numerous attempts by people to construct a shelter for him in the past, Lord Hanuman has always refused it. In a dream, he revealed to one of his devoted followers, “My master, Lord Sri Narasimha, resides in a cave without a roof as the hill itself acts as a natural covering. Since my revered master does not have a roof, I too choose to live under the open sky and serve Lord Narasimha for eternity.”
