Maharshi Bhrigu, one of Lord Brahma’s Manasputras and one of the Nine Brahmas, had several wives, including Khyati, Puloma, and Usana. From Khyati, he had two sons named Dhata and Vidhata, as well as a daughter named Shri. Known as Prajapati or creator, Lord Brahma created Bhrigu to assist him in the creation of the universe. As a result, Bhrigu is also referred to as Bhargava. Interestingly, his daughter Shri (Lakshmi) became the wife of Shri Vishnu. Due to her lineage, she is often known as Bhargavi – being the daughter of Bhrigu.

In the same vein, the Daridrya Mochana Stotram mentions Sukracharya, another son of Bhrigu who was born to Usana and referred to as Kavi, Bhargava, and so on. We will strive to learn more about these esteemed sages in the future. Bhrigu himself was well-versed in performing Yagnas and helping others do the same. With his powers, he fulfilled the desires of many to have children. During the months of Bhadrapada and Shravana, he resided in the chariot of the Sun God. When Usana was killed, both her powers and Devatas were liberated. Sage Bhrigu had a special wish for Vishnu to experience life on Earth, including its cycles of birth, death, and suffering like us. Using his powers once again, he brought his wife back to life. As with Sage Durvasa’s curse that Vishnu accepted without complaint, the sage also cursed Ambareesha. Still, Vishnu intervened in an invisible form and took on the curse Himself as He is a devoted follower of Vishnu.
