About Temple

Founded in 1974 by erudite scholar Mukkur Srinivasa Vardachariyar and others, the temple was constructed through the efforts of devotees. The First Consecration Ceremony (Kumbhabhishekam – Kudamuzhukku) was held on April 5, 1976. An Executive Officer manages the day-to-day affairs of the temple. It is administered by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Tamil Nadu.

History

Dedicated to Mahavishnu and Ashta Lakshmi, the temple is constructed in the Ashtanga Vimana style. This ancient style is also found in Tirukkotiyur, Madurai, Tiruttangal, Kanchi and Uttiramerur. The three-tiered temple has a ground floor, first floor and second floor with steps leading to each level. This unique feature is characteristic of the Ashtanga Vimana Style. Each floor depicts one of the three forms of Lord Vishnu – standing, sitting and reclining. On the ground floor stand Mahavishnu and Mahalakshmi while on the other floors are shrines for the Eight Lakshmis in each corner.
