History
Located in the heart of Coimbatore city, on the grounds of Arya Vaidaya Pharmacy, stands Dhanwanthiri Mandir with pride. This rare temple is devoted to Lord Dhanwanthiri and has gained recognition as one of the few in the world. Its history dates back to 1975 when it underwent the Shadaadhara Pratishta ceremony, where six supports were placed in the sanctum sanatorium by the tantri, or chief priest, while reciting mantras. In 1977, the temple was officially inaugurated with the consecration and placement of its idols.
Lord Dhanwanthiri, the deity of medicine, is highly revered by Vaidyas (AYURVEDA physicians). This temple was established to add a spiritual dimension to the Ayurvedic treatment tradition at Aryavaidya Chitsalayam. The temple is managed by a warrior family known for their strong ties to Ayurveda, along with the renowned Aryavaidya Pharmacy. Constructed in accordance with traditional Vaasthu architectural principles, the Dhanwanthiri temple houses not only the main deity but also several sub-deities that amplify its divine energy.
