It is common belief that people who go to temples dedicated to the sun god are blessed with wealth outside of the temple.
Only two temples in Mother India are dedicated to the KING OF GODS or Sun God.
There is a belief that the Konark Sun Temple was built by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty, and that the Suryanar Temple was built by Kulottunga Chola I of the Chola Dynasty.
Located in northern and southern India respectively, the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha and the Suryanar Temple in Tamilnadu offer unique experiences for devotees. The Suryanar Temple is situated in the village of Suryanarkoil, within Thanjavur district, boasting a picturesque location on the banks of the Cauvery River. Easily accessible, it is only 20 kilometers from Mayiladuthurai, 15 kilometers east of Kumbakonam, and a mere 2 kilometers north of Aduthurai. For those looking for an optimal visit, it is recommended to plan a trip between October and March.
The temple tower is 15.5 meters tall and has three tiers and five domes at its peak. To the north of Rajagopuram is the temple tank. It is important to take a holy bath in the temple tank or simply sprinkle water on your head before worshiping God. There are more than 12 Cheethams in the temple. Each of the nine planets is represented by a separate sanctum (sannadhis). This is one of its highlights.
Sri Suryanarayanaswamy, the temple’s presiding deity, lies in the sanctum sanctorum with Sri Usha Devi and Sri Pratyusha Devi. A prominent sculpture is the Kol Theertha Vinayakar (Ganesha) shrine. The Sun God, who reigns supreme, can be seen facing the remaining eight Navagrahas.
